Did you ever see a butterfly wake up?

This morning while I was out with the dogs I noticed two Gulf Fritillary butterflies hanging under leaves, wings folded, and pale. When they prepare for sleep, they fold their wings, drain their color, and squeeze their antennae together so that the clubs touch. This species resembles a leaf when they do it.

In the morning, they need to come up to flying temperature, so the first sunbeam that touches them, wakes them. They move to the tops of the leaves or stem so they can catch those rays. Otherwise, they wait if they are in the shade.

I went into the house and grabbed my trusty little Sony DW50, and here's what I got. A Gulf Fritillary (migrating now) with a large bird bite in one wing, slowly pumping iron in the sun.

Hope you like this. (Now I have to find out how to upload a video here. Sorry)

Nature astonishes me. There is always something to learn. Every day. By the way, the Gulf Fritillary at the top of this entry is the same species as the one waking up. Notice the difference in color when fully awake.

The Bailout Failed - Congratulations to all who fought it!

Quote of the Day

Abuse no one and no thing, for abuse turns the wise ones to fools and robs the spirit of its vision. When your time comes to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song, and die like a hero going home." by: Tecumseh -(1768-1813) Shawnee Chief

Ron Paul for his one minute in Congress on the Bailout

Is it a little more clear now? Our dollar is backed by faith - not GOLD! Are we to leave our future and that of several generations to come to this bunch lying, corrupt thieves?

Our dollars are only fit to light the fires we will be building in 50 gal. backyard drums (if we can get them) to huddle around and keep warm.

And then there's this:

More bad news on Posse Commitatus and Martial Law

This comes from Steve Spence at Green Trust:

Several bills have been passed with little or no media attention. HR
5122 is one of those. Here is an article below:

http://www.towardfreedom.com/home/content/view/911

In a stealth maneuver, President Bush has signed into law a provision
which, according to Senator Patrick Leahy (D-Vermont), will actually
encourage the President to declare federal martial law (1). It does so
by revising the Insurrection Act, a set of laws that limits the
President's ability to deploy troops within the United States. The
Insurrection Act (10 U.S.C.331 -335) has historically, along with the
Posse Comitatus Act (18 U.S.C.1385), helped to enforce strict
prohibitions on military involvement in domestic law enforcement. With
one cloaked swipe of his pen, Bush is seeking to undo those
prohibitions. Public Law 109-364, or the "John Warner Defense
Authorization Act of 2007" (H.R.5122) (2), which was signed by the
commander in chief on October 17th, 2006, in a private Oval Office
ceremony, allows the President to declare a "public emergency" and
station troops anywhere in America and take control of state-based
National Guard units without the consent of the governor or local
authorities, in order to "suppress public disorder."

President Bush seized this unprecedented power on the very same day that
he signed the equally odious Military Commissions Act of 2006. In a
sense, the two laws complement one another. One allows for torture and
detention abroad, while the other seeks to enforce acquiescence at home,
preparing to order the military onto the streets of America. Remember,
the term for putting an area under military law enforcement control is
precise; the term is "martial law."

Section 1076 of the massive Authorization Act, which grants the Pentagon
another $500-plus-billion for its ill-advised adventures, is entitled,
"Use of the Armed Forces in Major Public Emergencies." Section 333,
"Major public emergencies; interference with State and Federal law"
states that "the President may employ the armed forces, including the
National Guard in Federal service, to restore public order and enforce
the laws of the United States when, as a result of a natural disaster,
epidemic, or other serious public health emergency, terrorist attack or
incident, or other condition in any State or possession of the United
States, the President determines that domestic violence has occurred to
such an extent that the constituted authorities of the State or
possession are incapable of ("refuse" or "fail" in) maintaining public
order, "in order to suppress, in any State, any insurrection, domestic
violence, unlawful combination, or conspiracy."

For the current President, "enforcement of the laws to restore public
order" means to commandeer guardsmen from any state, over the objections
of local governmental, military and local police entities; ship them off
to another state; conscript them in a law enforcement mode; and set them
loose against "disorderly" citizenry - protesters, possibly, or those
who object to forced vaccinations and quarantines in the event of a
bio-terror event.

The law also facilitates militarized police round-ups and detention of
protesters, so called "illegal aliens," "potential terrorists" and other
"undesirables" for detention in facilities already contracted for and
under construction by Halliburton. That's right. Under the cover of a
trumped-up "immigration emergency" and the frenzied militarization of
the southern border, detention camps are being constructed right under
our noses, camps designed for anyone who resists the foreign and
domestic agenda of the Bush administration.

An article on "recent contract awards" in a recent issue of the slick,
insider "Journal of Counterterrorism & Homeland Security International"
reported that "global engineering and technical services powerhouse KBR
[Kellog, Brown & Root] announced in January 2006 that its Government and
Infrastructure division was awarded an Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite
Quantity (IDIQ) contract to support U.S. Immigration and Customs
Enforcement (ICE) facilities in the event of an emergency." "With a
maximum total value of $385 million over a five year term," the report
notes, "the contract is to be executed by the U.S. Army Corps of
Engineers," "for establishing temporary detention and processing
capabilities to augment existing ICE Detention and Removal Operations
(DRO) - in the event of an emergency influx of immigrants into the U.S.,
or to support the rapid development of new programs." The report points
out that "KBR is the engineering and construction subsidiary of
Halliburton." (3) So, in addition to authorizing another $532.8 billion
for the Pentagon, including a $70-billion "supplemental provision" which
covers the cost of the ongoing, mad military maneuvers in Iraq,
Afghanistan, and other places, the new law, signed by the president in a
private White House ceremony, further collapses the historic divide
between the police and the military: a tell-tale sign of a rapidly
consolidating police state in America, all accomplished amidst ongoing
U.S. imperial pretensions of global domination, sold to an "emergency
managed" and seemingly willfully gullible public as a "global war on
terrorism."

Make no mistake about it: the de-facto repeal of the Posse Comitatus Act
(PCA) is an ominous assault on American democratic tradition and
jurisprudence. The 1878 Act, which reads, "Whoever, except in cases and
under circumstances expressly authorized by the Constitution or Act of
Congress, willfully uses any part of the Army or Air Force as a posse
comitatus or otherwise to execute the laws shall be fined under this
title or imprisoned not more than two years, or both," is the only U.S.
criminal statute that outlaws military operations directed against the
American people under the cover of 'law enforcement.' As such, it has
been the best protection we've had against the power-hungry intentions
of an unscrupulous and reckless executive, an executive intent on using
force to enforce its will.

Unfortunately, this past week, the president dealt posse comitatus,
along with American democracy, a near fatal blow. Consequently, it will
take an aroused citizenry to undo the damage wrought by this horrendous
act, part and parcel, as we have seen, of a long train of abuses and
outrages perpetrated by this authoritarian administration.

Despite the unprecedented and shocking nature of this act, there has
been no outcry in the American media, and little reaction from our
elected officials in Congress. On September 19th, a lone Senator Patrick
Leahy (D-Vermont) noted that 2007's Defense Authorization Act contained
a "widely opposed provision to allow the President more control over the
National Guard [adopting] changes to the Insurrection Act, which will
make it easier for this or any future President to use the military to
restore domestic order WITHOUT the consent of the nation's governors."

Senator Leahy went on to stress that, "we certainly do not need to make
it easier for Presidents to declare martial law. Invoking the
Insurrection Act and using the military for law enforcement activities
goes against some of the central tenets of our democracy. One can easily
envision governors and mayors in charge of an emergency having to
constantly look over their shoulders while someone who has never visited
their communities gives the orders."

A few weeks later, on the 29th of September, Leahy entered into the
Congressional Record that he had "grave reservations about certain
provisions of the fiscal Year 2007 Defense Authorization Bill Conference
Report," the language of which, he said, "subverts solid, longstanding
posse comitatus statutes that limit the military's involvement in law
enforcement, thereby making it easier for the President to declare
martial law." This had been "slipped in," Leahy said, "as a rider with
little study," while "other congressional committees with jurisdiction
over these matters had no chance to comment, let alone hold hearings on,
these proposals."

In a telling bit of understatement, the Senator from Vermont noted that
"the implications of changing the (Posse Comitatus) Act are enormous".
"There is good reason," he said, "for the constructive friction in
existing law when it comes to martial law declarations. Using the
military for law enforcement goes against one of the founding tenets of
our democracy. We fail our Constitution, neglecting the rights of the
States, when we make it easier for the President to declare martial law
and trample on local and state sovereignty."

Senator Leahy's final ruminations: "Since hearing word a couple of weeks
ago that this outcome was likely, I have wondered how Congress could
have gotten to this point. It seems the changes to the Insurrection Act
have survived the Conference because the Pentagon and the White House
want it."

The historic and ominous re-writing of the Insurrection Act,
accomplished in the dead of night, which gives Bush the legal authority
to declare martial law, is now an accomplished fact.

The Pentagon, as one might expect, plays an even more direct role in
martial law operations. Title XIV of the new law, entitled, "Homeland
Defense Technology Transfer Legislative Provisions," authorizes "the
Secretary of Defense to create a Homeland Defense Technology Transfer
Consortium to improve the effectiveness of the Department of Defense
(DOD) processes for identifying and deploying relevant DOD technology to
federal, State, and local first responders."

In other words, the law facilitates the "transfer" of the newest in
so-called "crowd control" technology and other weaponry designed to
suppress dissent from the Pentagon to local militarized police units.
The new law builds on and further codifies earlier "technology transfer"
agreements, specifically the 1995 DOD-Justice Department memorandum of
agreement achieved back during the Clinton-Reno regime.(4)

It has become clear in recent months that a critical mass of the
American people have seen through the lies of the Bush administration;
with the president's polls at an historic low, growing resistance to the
war Iraq, and the Democrats likely to take back the Congress in mid-term
elections, the Bush administration is on the ropes. And so it is
particularly worrying that President Bush has seen fit, at this juncture
to, in effect, declare himself dictator.

The Lizard King...

NO! I don't mean George Bush...I mean the book by Bryan Christy, "The Lizard King". Steve Grenard, a herpetologist and owner of the venomlist to which I've subscribed for years, says it's "Enthralling stuff."

That's good enough for me. The review is by AZRINA ABDULLAH as follows:

The shadowy world of illegal wildlife trading is laid bare in this
non-fiction book that reads like a thriller.

THE LIZARD KING
The True Crimes and Passions of the World's Greatest Reptile
Smugglers

By Bryan Christy
Publisher: Twelve, 256 pages
ISBN: 978-0446580953

http://thestar.com.my/lifestyle/story.asp?
file=/2008/9/28/lifebookshelf/2000872&sec=lifebookshelf

IT'S been compared to the illegal drugs and arms trade: experts
estimate that profits from the world's illegal trade in wildlife runs
into billions of dollars. But, just like the drugs trade, illegal
wildlife trading is a shadowy, little known world.

This book sheds some light and puts faces to what is a complex
problem; and, most importantly for local readers, it includes an
intriguing Malaysian angle.

The Lizard King begins with the story of one Tomas Medina who
attempts to smuggle snakes and tortoises from Argentina into the
United States by packing them in hidden pockets and pillow cases
distributed among his luggage.

>From there, the book goes on to provide fascinating details about how
illegal traders like Medina are part of a worldwide network - and
it's a network that includes a trader from Penang, too.
We are given a rare glimpse into this network, which is managed like
a well oiled machine able to move one of the world's rarest species,
the ploughshare tortoise from its native Madagascar to overseas
markets where it can fetch up to US$10,000 (RM34,000) each.

Along the way, this page-turner of a book introduces us to the
fascinating characters that inhabit the two sides of this trade: the
dedicated enforcement officers whose job it is to protect endangered
wildlife and those who exploit that wildlife illegally for profit.

The central character of this book is Mike Van Nostrand, owner of
Strictly Reptiles in Florida, a major supplier of reptiles not only
in the United States but globally, too.

Van Nostrand initially had not wanted to continue his father's
reptile business: "... Mike knew he did not want to go into the
reptile business. It wasn't the animals, it was the people". However,
like his father, he was a shrewd businessman and understood the huge
profits the business could reap; how could he say no to pocketing
US$200,000 (RM680,000) a year before he turned 25?

Opposing him is Agent Chip Bepler, an enforcement officer with the US
Fish and Wildlife Service, who starts sniffing into Strictly
Reptiles' illegal activities and pulls out all the stops to arrest
Mike.

Bepler is an inspiring personality, especially when he displays
dogged persistence in bringing Strictly Reptiles to justice for a
crime many consider victimless.

The cat and mouse game between these two main characters escalates to
reveal an international syndicate and the involvement of officials
trusted to protect wildlife but who instead have been corrupted into
facilitating the illegal trade.

Does it sound like a fictional thriller? Well, this non-fiction book
is just as compelling a read as any best-selling thriller.

To make it even more compelling for Malaysians, there is one chapter
devoted to Penangite Anson Wong, our very own major player in the
wildlife trade.

This is riveting chapter, and reading about Wong's take on the
illegal wildlife trade brings new meaning to the phrase Malaysia
Boleh!

The objectivity of Christy's writing is praiseworthy in an area known
for its fierce polemics. For instance, the book leaves you to decide
what type of person Van Nostrand is, and tries to explain where
someone like him is coming from.

What particularly stands out is Van Nostrand's understanding of and
respect for Bepler's work even though they were on opposite sides of
the wildlife trade war.
There are more than enough facts to keep you turning the pages and
learning about the ingenious, and in most cases, the simplest and
obvious ways people have smuggled wildlife.

This seems to be an extremely well researched book, with the author
basing his account on records and transcripts from enforcement
agencies such as the Law Enforcement Division of the US Fish and
Wildlife Service, US Department of Justice, and US Attorney's Office.
Apart from the van Nostrands, interviews were also conducted with the
wildlife traders themselves including Wong, and other players such as
Ralph Davis, and Bob Clark.

It doesn't matter whether you are a nature lover or not because, like
any good book, The Lizard King evokes a rollercoaster of emotions
through Christy's portrayal of his cast of characters. That is how a
book, any book, should affect its reader, and Christy delivers.

illegal wildlife trade in the region.

I didn't know this about earthworms...

Take a look at this!

Earthworms Spread Weed Seed

3054a.jpg

Giant ragweed (Ambrosia trifida) is one of the main contributors to the hay fever that causes distress to millions of gardeners this time of year. While giant ragweed is quite capable of spreading through gardens and fields on its own, it’s also getting help from one of a gardener’s best friends: the earthworm.

Weed ecologists at Ohio State University have found that earthworms are moving seeds of giant ragweed around in the soil, effectively spreading this weed wherever they go. More than two-thirds of all giant ragweed seedlings studied emerged from earthworm burrows. Researchers began investigating this phenomenon because giant ragweed produces few seeds, yet it's readily spreading in gardens and agricultural fields.

While earthworms also collect seed from other plants, such as sunflowers, giant ragweed is a preferred plant. Earthworms forage for seeds and bring them into their burrows, often located only a few inches below the soil surface -- a perfect place for weed seeds to germinate.

For more information on earthworms as weed farmers, go to: Weed Science Society of America.

Thought I was kidding about US troops patrolling us?

Burnie Thompson, local Panama City, FL talk show host, ate crow today. He didn't believe a comment I had made months before. Another brought the same issue up, and this time, the article appeared in "Army Times". This confirms my fears that hardened combat men and women are coming home to patrol US! These are people with many tours under their belts; under wartime condition. They will be hired and let loose on our streets. Should we be fearful?

I think so.

But remember, we can police ourselves. And if times get brutal and bloody, we cannot expect help from such as these. They bring with them all the images and flashbacks and damaged minds and souls of war. These were the ones trained in patrol and "peacekeeping".

Instead of being let loose on the streets surveilling and engaging us, they should be sent to hospitals so they can mend their mental injuries.

Thompson said on the air he thought the prior comments were conspiratorial, but not now. It's got him concerned. Wait until he reads about the US concentration camps that are staffed now, and the coffin makers with their stockpiles in Georgia and other places. Don't believe what I tell you here. After the computer crash, so goes our economy...

I was offline for a week. Withdrawal symptoms were bad; still, I didn't go out and buy Ben and Jerry's and stuff my face in agony.

My computer guru is remarkable. I thank you so much!

My head shrank from lack of information. But I did find time to play with my visiting grandchildren from Texas. Shut down of utilities made it necessary for my son to bring them here so he could work out of the local plant. By the way, way down the list is a piece on his broken femur. He is now 1/4 inch shorter in his leg. He was lucky.

But the economy. I watched Bush's speech last night. His beady little eyes gave away the fact that he's really scairt! Should've had Ron Paul in on the fix. I just heard Paul on Alex Jones' program. He said in essence, this is going to get bigger.

I'D LIKE TO SEE HEADS ROLL, LITERALLY. LOP THEM OFF BY TAKING AWAY GOLDEN PARACHUTES; PUT THOSE IN JAIL WHO WERE RESPONSIBLE. MAKE THEM LIVE ON THE STREET. WHO CARES? THEY'VE PUT A LOT OF PEOPLE ON THE STREET, AND HAVE PUT A BURDEN ON MY GRANDCHILDREN AND THEIR CHILDREN, TOO.

I am not impressed with the bailout. I just heard that Russia, China and Pakistan are going to form a monetary union. Europe may join in. We are going to have to change our currency because that would completely ruin us.

Why hasn't anyone suggest the repeal of the Federal Reserve Act of 1939 (if the date is wrong, forgive me - I'm bad at all numbers)? That would force us to have REAL backing of our fiat currency in the form of US Notes. That means precious metal. Gold. JFK wanted to do that way back then before he was assassinated. I think that was why the deed was done. Too many would have fallen. So take out one man for an example.

I'll do a little research and put the url's here:

An additional one as an email to me:

Dear Friends:

The financial meltdown the economists of the Austrian School predicted has arrived.

We are in this crisis because of an excess of artificially created credit at the hands of the Federal Reserve System. The solution being proposed? More artificial credit by the Federal Reserve. No liquidation of bad debt and malinvestment is to be allowed. By doing more of the same, we will only continue and intensify the distortions in our economy - all the capital misallocation, all the malinvestment - and prevent the market's attempt to re-establish rational pricing of houses and other assets.

Last night the president addressed the nation about the financial crisis. There is no point in going through his remarks line by line, since I'd only be repeating what I've been saying over and over - not just for the past several days, but for years and even decades.

Still, at least a few observations are necessary.

The president assures us that his administration "is working with Congress to address the root cause behind much of the instability in our markets." Care to take a guess at whether the Federal Reserve and its money creation spree were even mentioned?

We are told that "low interest rates" led to excessive borrowing, but we are not told how these low interest rates came about. They were a deliberate policy of the Federal Reserve. As always, artificially low interest rates distort the market. Entrepreneurs engage in malinvestments - investments that do not make sense in light of current resource availability, that occur in more temporally remote stages of the capital structure than the pattern of consumer demand can support, and that would not have been made at all if the interest rate had been permitted to tell the truth instead of being toyed with by the Fed.

Not a word about any of that, of course, because Americans might then discover how the great wise men in Washington caused this great debacle. Better to keep scapegoating the mortgage industry or "wildcat capitalism" (as if we actually have a pure free market!).

Speaking about Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the president said: "Because these companies were chartered by Congress, many believed they were guaranteed by the federal government. This allowed them to borrow enormous sums of money, fuel the market for questionable investments, and put our financial system at risk."

Doesn't that prove the foolishness of chartering Fannie and Freddie in the first place? Doesn't that suggest that maybe, just maybe, government may have contributed to this mess? And of course, by bailing out Fannie and Freddie, hasn't the federal government shown that the "many" who "believed they were guaranteed by the federal government" were in fact correct?

Then come the scare tactics. If we don't give dictatorial powers to the Treasury Secretary "the stock market would drop even more, which would reduce the value of your retirement account. The value of your home could plummet." Left unsaid, naturally, is that with the bailout and all the money and credit that must be produced out of thin air to fund it, the value of your retirement account will drop anyway, because the value of the dollar will suffer a precipitous decline. As for home prices, they are obviously much too high, and supply and demand cannot equilibrate if government insists on propping them up.

It's the same destructive strategy that government tried during the Great Depression: prop up prices at all costs. The Depression went on for over a decade. On the other hand, when liquidation was allowed to occur in the equally devastating downturn of 1921, the economy recovered within less than a year.

The president also tells us that Senators McCain and Obama will join him at the White House today in order to figure out how to get the bipartisan bailout passed. The two senators would do their country much more good if they stayed on the campaign trail debating who the bigger celebrity is, or whatever it is that occupies their attention these days.

F.A. Hayek won the Nobel Prize for showing how central banks' manipulation of interest rates creates the boom-bust cycle with which we are sadly familiar. In 1932, in the depths of the Great Depression, he described the foolish policies being pursued in his day - and which are being proposed, just as destructively, in our own:

Instead of furthering the inevitable liquidation of the maladjustments brought about by the boom during the last three years, all conceivable means have been used to prevent that readjustment from taking place; and one of these means, which has been repeatedly tried though without success, from the earliest to the most recent stages of depression, has been this deliberate policy of credit expansion.

To combat the depression by a forced credit expansion is to attempt to cure the evil by the very means which brought it about; because we are suffering from a misdirection of production, we want to create further misdirection - a procedure that can only lead to a much more severe crisis as soon as the credit expansion comes to an end... It is probably to this experiment, together with the attempts to prevent liquidation once the crisis had come, that we owe the exceptional severity and duration of the depression.

The only thing we learn from history, I am afraid, is that we do not learn from history.

The very people who have spent the past several years assuring us that the economy is fundamentally sound, and who themselves foolishly cheered the extension of all these novel kinds of mortgages, are the ones who now claim to be the experts who will restore prosperity! Just how spectacularly wrong, how utterly without a clue, does someone have to be before his expert status is called into question?

Oh, and did you notice that the bailout is now being called a "rescue plan"? I guess "bailout" wasn't sitting too well with the American people.

The very people who with somber faces tell us of their deep concern for the spread of democracy around the world are the ones most insistent on forcing a bill through Congress that the American people overwhelmingly oppose. The very fact that some of you seem to think you're supposed to have a voice in all this actually seems to annoy them.

I continue to urge you to contact your representatives and give them a piece of your mind. I myself am doing everything I can to promote the correct point of view on the crisis. Be sure also to educate yourselves on these subjects - the Campaign for Liberty blog is an excellent place to start. Read the posts, ask questions in the comment section, and learn.

H.G. Wells once said that civilization was in a race between education and catastrophe. Let us learn the truth and spread it as far and wide as our circumstances allow. For the truth is the greatest weapon we have.

In liberty,

Ron Paul

A little levity:

Below is an email on the proposed bailout of the Wall Street

criminals who have created the financial fiasco we are currently

faced with. I don't know if his math is right...but I sure like the

idea!

OK.....here's a plan I could live with...

I'm against the $85,000,000,000.00 bailout of AIG.

Instead, I'm in favor of giving $85,000,000,000 to America in a

"We Deserve It Dividend".

To make the math simple, let's assume there are 200,000,000 bonafide
U.S. Citizens 18+.
Our population is about 301,000,000 +/- counting every man, woman
and child.
So 200,000,000 might be a fair stab at adults 18 and up..
So divide 200 million adults 18+ into $85 billon that equals
$425,000.00.
My plan is to give $425,000 to every person 18+ as a We Deserve It
Dividend.
Of course, it would NOT be tax free.
So let's assume a tax rate of 30%.
Every individual 18+ has to pay $127,500.00 in taxes.
That sends $25,500,000,000 right back to Uncle Sam.
But it means that every adult 18+ has $297,500.00 in their pocket.
A husband and wife team has $595,000.00.
What would you do with $297,500.00 to $595,000.00 in your family?
Pay off your mortgage - housing crisis solved.
Repay college loans - what a great boost to new grads
Put away money for college - it'll be there
Save in a bank - create money to loan to entrepreneurs.
Buy a new car - create jobs
Invest in the market - capital drives growth
Pay for your parent's medical insurance - health care improves
Enable Deadbeat Dads to come clean - or else
Remember this is for every adult U S Citizen 18+ including the folks
who
lost their jobs at Lehman Brothers and every other company that is
cutting
back. And, of course, for those serving in our Armed Forces.
If we're going to re-distribute wealth let's really do it...instead of
trickling out a puny $1000.00 ("vote buy") economic incentive that is
being
proposed by one of our candidates for President.
If we're going to do an $85 billion bailout, let's bail out every
adult U S Citizen 18+!
As for AIG - liquidate it.
Sell off its parts.
Let American General go back to being American General.
Sell off the real estate.
Let the private sector bargain hunters cut it up and clean it up.
Here's my rationale. We deserve it and AIG doesn't.
Sure it's a crazy idea that can "never work."
But can you imagine the Coast-To-Coast Block Party!
How do you spell Economic Boom?
I trust my fellow adult Americans to know how to use the $85 Billion
We Deserve It Dividend more than do the geniuses at AIG or in
Washington DC.
And remember, The Birk plan only really costs $59.5 Billion because
$25.5
Billion is returned instantly in taxes to Uncle Sam.
Ahhh...I feel so much better getting that off my chest.
Kindest personal regards,
Birk
T. J. Birkenmeier, A Creative Guy & Citizen of the Republic
PS: Feel free to pass this along to your pals as it's either good for a
laugh or a tear or a very sobering thought on how to best use $85
Billion!!

Does anyone here know Bill Balsamico? He's the owner of Casa d'Ice. Pennsylvania, I think. Here's what he says about the bailout:

Wall Street Bail Out

It is very sad that we are in this position at this time (that is to say how close to being a third world country which I talked about in my last address). It is my opinion that we do not give one dime to bail out the GREEDY and CROOKED companies. Where were our leaders while this was happening? Our President and both Presidential candidates keep telling America that the backbone of our country and economy is the everyday worker and small business owner. As a small business owner I am tired of them breaking my back. While the speculators drove up the price of oil we paid and are still paying the price at the pumps while those same speculators made BILLIONS with no risk involved. Ask any small business owner if Wall Street and/or the Government will bail them out if they make bad decisions in business. These people on Wall Street make VERY VERY good money (which they still have in the bank or in their possession unlike the stockholder that they wiped out). Wall Street, AIG, Fanny Mae, Freddie Mac etc employees are all still working, their fortunes and futures were not wiped out. If the President, Congress and both Presidential candidates pass this 700 BILLION bail out they are telling me Washington business as usual (PORK SPENDING JUST SUPER SIZED and under the term BAILOUT). I believe if no bailout is given the everyday worker and small business will not perish as they lead you to believe. After all we survive every other hurdle Government and big business throw our way. It is time they learn how to survive the way we do, by sucking it up and getting through with no guarantees like the rest of the real world survives. I would rather endure a few bumps in the road than have the Government sell the future of my children and grand children. If the big companies pay and suffer for their mistakes, we (as well as them) will evolve a better and stronger country for it.

Thank You,

Bill Balsamico

P.S. Just think about this: Those working on this BAILOUT are the same people that sat and did nothing to prevent it. MAKES ME WONDER... Let's hope Congress doesn't pass this BAILOUT just so they can go home.

Interesting - Glenn Beck wouldn't give Ron Paul time

on his tv show until the very end. NOW, however, he's listening to him a lot. Here is the interview from yesterday, I think, on our current financial disasters.

Ron Paul on the current financial crisis

http://www.libertymaven.com/2008/09/18/ron-paul-rants-on-the-lunacy-of-foreign-aid-while-america-is-bankrupt/1952

If you have the jitters about the stability of your bank, your retirement funds, 401Ks, your stock portfolio, you have good reason.

Ron Paul again offers sound economic policy, if only the rest of "them" would take it to heart and decide our best interests are what will propel the US into economic and financial security. Included in this entry from Liberty Maven, are videos.

Washington Mutual (WAMU) is on shaky ground and is expected to slide into the pit soon.

Here are a list of bank failures. Is yours there? http://www.fdic.gov/bank/individual/failed/banklist.html

Next time you get paid or visit your bank, take enough out to buy one gold coin. A Krugerand if you can afford it, a silver bar (they aren't expensive), a vial of silver dimes or quarters. Hold it in your hand. Here in your hand, is wealth. Look at one of our dollar bills. What is that, anyway?
A piece of paper. Funny money. Faith based? Faith in what? The money machine switch is turned on at the Federal Reserve as needed. Bail out a trillion-dollar failing bank and brokerage - no problemo. Fixed. Your money is devalued. Worth less. It is FIAT MONEY.

My friend, a coin dealer whom I've known for years did just that for me several months ago.
He held up a tube of Krugerands and let me hold it. "Here. With this, in WWII, if you were in Italy, you could take one of these coins and get to freedom; get on a train, take it to Switzerland.
This will allow you to start over in any country in the world." With every financial crisis, with every bail out, with every collapse, our economy grows weaker. With every one dollar you deposit in the bank, they can loan out nine. They have loaned and loaned, and if you look around, are you seeing banks sprouting up like crocuses in spring? And they don't seem to have apparent business. How are they staying in business? They are the children of other banks, loaning out nine dollars for every one.

Glenn Beck
's on the radio. He just said, "The value of the dollars is just...worthless." http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/09/17/beck.wallstreet/index.html?iref=topnews

Maybe you'd better listen or view the transcript of his program today. He's getting really deep, discussing US T-bills/bonds going into default. People are running to gold.

If your finances are a mystery, get smart. Don't trust so much you lose it all. Protect yourself. Your bank could fail overnight. It happened in 1929. I remember images from old newsreels of men with wheelbarrows full of paper money. It was WORTHLESS.

Who loves elephants?

Me!

And apparently, so do a lot of others. Take a look at "Elephant Camp".

Ever call someone a Neanderthal?

I have. Actually, it may have been a compliment.

Here is an excellent article on the Neanderthals from the latest National Geographic newsletter. It's 10 pages long, but if you are interested in paleoanthropology, fossils, evolution, and this group of remarkable people, for indeed, they are, then it is a must read; a fascinating read.

I have a collection of Native American tools and points. Some are very crude, but resemble some of the photos you'll see here. But when I needed a flensing tool to clean some greasy tissue from a road-killed otter several years ago, this, not any of my modern tools, was the tool that did it most efficiently, and it fit my hand like it was custom made for me.

Amazing. I've always been impressed by that.

Anyway - learning something each day is a good thing, and I hope you enjoy this visit a Gibraltar cave, thanks to Stephen S. Hall.

Until I saw this, I never thought much about it -

and certainly, my son should never read this (daredevil that he is at 38), but I would LOVE to do this. Maybe it's pre-dementia - or maybe it's just spirit! Who knows!???

Watching this just...turned me on! Looks like a really big thrill!
